I've never really experienced this kind of loss before. The loss of a little baby, one I never even knew.
Working at an obgyn clinic and seeing the reality of miscarriage could still not prepare me for the complete emptiness I now feel.
Regardless, I do thank my Heavenly Father for protecting and keeping this little life safe in heaven. No pain, sorrow, and hurt which are inevitable from escaping in this day and age.
I know many of you have gone through something similar if not much worse and I now understand how you may have felt.
Thank you Lord for giving such peace and comfort in trials.
I am also so very thankful for what I do have right now. A God who is GREAT! A supportive and wonderful husband, two amazing children, family who go above and beyond everyday, loving and very kind friends...I could go on and on.

Let me tell you about my day because it was really wonderful and rewarding. First off, I went to Bible Study Fellowship and we studied John 13. Our Amazing, Majestic, Powerful, Almighty God, Creator of the entire universe became a servant and washed His disciples dirty, stinky feet. He was the ultimate example of what a true servant is, loving and humble. It truly amazes me that He loved and showed no partiality to the man who would betray Him. What a God I serve!
Before I get into the last part of my day, I must apologize because what I did was done with a motive. Nevertheless, I got to practice what I learned. John and I were able to help today at Food at First. We prepared a meal for homeless people in our town. It was also great getting to know people in our community that serve daily as volunteers with no expectation of getting anything in return. Thank you Candy and Barb! This is an awesome program that Disney is putting on. Not only is it a great opportunity to volunteer in your community, but you also get a FREE ticket to Disney attractions for helping. I was truly blessed by this ministry and the people who diligently serve. Hopefully I'll be able to help out on a more regular basis with no expectation.

February...

In my opinion, this happens to be one of the toughest winter months every year. I really get antsy and ready for Spring to arrive. Turning 30 at the end of January, feeling completely OUT OF SHAPE, and many more weeks of winter still to come haven't helped. Nevertheless, I am oh so grateful for many, many things. All this gorgeous snow makes the long, dead winter months picturesque and more interesting. I thank the Lord for wonderful family and friends near and far. My two little ones overwhelm me with unbiased love and adoration, whether I deserve it or not. Attending Bible Study Fellowship and a new study in James has been such an encouragement. Good health so far this winter. These may sound so trivial and minor, but I truly am thankful for each.

I'm also blessed by my wonderful sisters/sis-in-laws...even though this picture excludes most of them. There is nothing quite like a sis.

"Eeeveee," (as her brother lovingly calls her) is already three and a half months. Where does the time go?! We are enjoying this precious little girl so much. She has such a wonderful temperament. Eva is very consolable the few times she gets upset. Her big brother absolutely LOVES his sister and tells her so often as he smothers her with kisses and hugs. We sing "You are my sunshine," everyday to her and she lights up upon hearing it. Once again, the Bumbo chair is getting some good use as we like to keep her with us while cooking/baking and eating. She's also began grabbing at her toys and pulling them to her mouth. Don't put her on her belly for very long or she will show a little attitude. Eva loves laughing, talking, cooing, and making gurgling noises. She also loves bath time, the swing, bouncy chair, and her pacifier. And I can't forget to say that you LOVE TV, shame on you. :) Her sleep pattern has been a dream for me as she typically takes three or more naps throughout the day and sleeps from 8:30 pm - 5 or 6 am. (WAYYYY better than her brother used to sleep when he was her age.) No teeth yet, thank goodness! We love you Evangeline Mae. Our prayer is that you continue to grow into a healthy, happy, godly woman.

As a side note: The major hair loss has begun, ugh! (Mine that is)

I couldn't help but add this one of my two handsome men.

Hard to believe that we've already made it past the first two weeks of Eva's life. It's been a wonderful couple weeks so far and very busy too. Not sure when things will actually slow down at this point. Thanks to many who have stopped by to say hello, bring a gift, food...etc. The Lord has blessed us with many wonderful friends and family who have spoilled us and we are grateful.
Eva had her two week appointment on Friday and weighed in at 7.2 lbs. She has been an EXCELLENT little eater so far and is beginning to fill out those little cheeks. She slept so well the first week + and then the last few nights has decided that she likes to be held throughout the night. Such a stinker at a young age. Oh well, I do love cuddling with my baby girl and so I'm just gonna enjoy it while it lasts. Thank goodness for nap time.
John's parents, sister Sarah, and her two little ladies are coming into town this week and we are so very excited. Eva can't wait to meet her two cousins. Edward is ready for a playmate his age too. Hope that Greta doesn't mind playing with tractors and airplanes.

John, Edward, and myself are happy to announce the birth of our daughter:
Evangeline Mae Heller
Born: September 25th 2009
Time: 1:21 AM
Weight: 6 lbs, 7 ounces (Exactly the same as her big brother Edward at his delivery).
Length: 20 In.
Lots of long dark hair, beautiful blue eyes, and she has a definite girly sounding cry.

A short recap of the delivery:
The Lord blesesed me with an amazing delivery!
Contractions began at 11 PM, I tried to straighten my hair between them. :)
We arrived at the hospital around 12:15 AM.
The nurse checked me initailly at 12:43 AM and stated that I was 8 cm's and had "majorly bulging membranes." Ahhhhhh!
They moved me to my delivery room shortly after, it felt like forever.
I hated having the monitor on my stomach for the required 20 minutes and kept asking to have it removed.
Didn't have time for a nice warm bubble bath or pain meds.
The midwife made it to the hospital around 1:10ish, broke my water, and after one BIG push, Eva Mae made her apperance at 1:21 AM.
THANK THE LORD!!!
We are all doing wonderful!

Today I went for my 39 week appointment and found out that I'm 4cm's, 80% efface, 0 station, bulging membranes, and my fundal height had went down 1 cm. Thus, she ordered another u/s which showed that in one week, my amniotic fluid had gone from 11+ to 5.32 which happens to be a very low normal. They wanted me to deliver today or tomorrow, but based on a great NST today, they are letting me wait until tomorrow. However, she seemed to think that I may go on my own tonight based on everything else and continued ctxn's. WHO knows! If Eva doens't come tonight, we will go into the hospital at 7 am to brake my water...not planning on having pitocin unless needed.
I've been doing last minute laundry, cleaning, and mentally preparing for what is to come. Kinda neat that Evangeline Mae will most likely be born on my Grandma Rinehart's, (name sake) acutal birthday. Pretty amazing!
We will try to keep you all posted. Please keep us all in your prayers and especially little Eva as we are praying for a healthy, happy little girl. Edward will need some prayer too with all the big changes that are about to happen.
So that is the latest...but soon we hope to have more specific details and actual pictures of our little girl.

Baby Update

Just letting you all know that I went in for my 38 week appointment and all looks great so far. They performed another u/s due to low amniotic fluid at my last apt. and it looked better today. I'm measuring small still, but at least changing weekly. 3 cm's, 80% efface, head low, ctxn's...hum, every 6-10 min's started last night from 11 pm - 6 am. Random the rest of the today. Sooo, I'm PRAYING that I actually get some sleep tonight. Definitely NOT feeling myself at this point, but I could stay pregnant another few weeks. The Lord knows!

We are getting close to D-Day. Can't believe she'll be here any day now. I'm feeling really good and wouldn't mind being pregnant another month or so...because I'm starting to get really nervous about all the changes that await us. However, we are really excited to meet our little girl whenever the Lord determines that it's time. I have another u/s and 38 week appointment scheduled for this Friday so we'll know a lot more at that time.
I'll try to keep you all posted if possible. My computer is pretty much broke at this point, but thank goodness for John's work computer. Thus, night time is when I am able to catch up on things.

Many of you have prayed, emailed, and/or called about the u/s results, thanks so much! For those who haven't heard, I wanted to write a quick update. Apparently, we have a little one on our hands according to the u/s and my measurements. However, I know that u/s measurements can always be a lb or so off thus, I'm not worrying too much at this point. They are estimating her weight at approx. four and a half lbs right now. I am scheduled for another u/s in two weeks to make sure she is growing appropriately. I've also begun the weekly apt's until delivery. It's hard to believe that this pregnancy is almost over. I'm really trying to enjoy every last moment before life really changes all over again. We are praying that induction won't be necessary unless of course the midwife/Dr. determines that it is important due to the baby's size.
I've just finished washing her clothes, packing the hospital bags, and I'm trying to complete the final touches on her room. Maybe I'll actually be ready this time around. Edward came two weeks early and I was not as prepared as I would have liked.
Thanks again for all your prayers and thoughts, I appreciate you all so much.

Gaining weight doesn't seem to be a problem this second time around...
However, I had my 34 week apt today and I'm measuring pretty small. I haven't changed since before my 30 week exam. Meaning that I've stayed at 29 cm's for six weeks now. Thus, I am scheduled for an u/s next week to check on a few things. Apparently the midwife wasn't too concerned or she would have done one today. I've also had LOTS of movement as usual and the heart rate was great and strong, (130's). Nevertheless, keep this little one in your prayers.

Home sweet home! However, how nice to get away for a little family vacation. Chicago is one of my favorite cities to visit. There are so many fun things to do and see. The Lincoln Park Zoo is wonderful and FREE! We also went on an architectural cruise and loved it. There is so much history in all those buildings and the city itself. The beach on Lake Michigan is great too and offers palm trees, sand, and waves. Then there was Great America, shopping on Michigan Avenue, Navy Pier, and awesome food. I probably gained 10 + lbs, ugh! Of course, we especially enjoyed spending time with two of my sisters, their husbands, my youngest brother Daniel, and some cousins.
Now I feel the need to get moving on some house projects before the baby arrives. What to do first?!

In other news, we have decided to take a VERY last minute vacation to Chicago. This will be the last trip with just the three of us before baby Eva arrives. Not too sure what the near future holds, but we look forward to a new life.
Edward amazes me everyday. I so wish that I would have taped his reaction yesterday when I first showed him "Eva Mae's" newborn diaper. He was absolutely delighted and in unbelief/awe by it's size. He then found some newborn shoes and now I can hardly get them out of his hands. He's been carrying them all around and occasionally putting them up to my belly to see if they will fit Eva's little feet. He's definitely getting excited about having a baby sis around soon.
I've been enjoying the nesting phase lately and getting a lot done. I just completed the whole long process of stripping, sanding, and staining two dressers for the kids rooms. I was really excited to find handles that were reasonably priced, fit correctly, and most importantly ones I liked. Pictures to come, I promise.
And lastly, I don't remember hitting the third trimester with my first pregnancy and being SOOOO uncomfortable. Either I have forgotten or I was in MUCH better shape...or something. Almost the exact day I hit the 28 week mark things have gone down hill. The bathroom is my best friend lately, thank goodness for my comforting body pillow, and discomfort/pain/feelings of HUGENESS, well, I could go on and on. I'm already tired of the complaining too.

Sleepy Wrap

I just found this Sleepy wrap at a local thrift store and I am really excited to try it out when our baby girl arrives. Just wondering how many of you used the same or similar wraps for your babies. I've been experimenting with it already and I think it's going to be pretty comfortable. I used a Baby Bjorn with Edward and found that my back would bother me a lot. It also wasn't as versatile as this one seems to be. I've also heard a LOT about the Moby wrap. I chose this one because it was in great shape and really cheap.

OLD NAVY SALE?

This Summer is FLYING by for our family. So much has happened in such a short amount of time. The Lord has certainly been a great comfort and help in these last few weeks. We are looking and trusting in him for all things to come.

A lesson in golf

John and I took Edward out for his FIRST round of golf. It went WAY better then I had imagined. He enjoyed putting the golf ball right by the hole and then he'd hit it in on the first or fifth try. Edward also enjoyed Oreo's, Sprite, and running ALL around the golf course. He's hoping that some of his Uncle's and Aunt's will take him out for a round when they get a moment.

Spring Happenings

This Spring has been really busy for us. My sweet sister Sarah completed her Dietetics degree through Iowa State University. Great job Sarah!!!

Also, John was inspired to begin a small side business in collaboration with my parents who have been producing, harvesting, and selling vegetables for 20 + years. Thus, we are featuring fresh veggies and fruits at the Des Moines Farmer's Market. I was pretty skeptical at first, however it has turned out to be a great way to work together in a fun environment. It's a whole lot of work and a MAJOR work in progress. Our first feature veggie has been grilled asparagus, (thank goodness for my parents FIVE acre patch). People apparently LOVE asparagus at 7 in the morning, who knew?!

Cloris Leachman even came by our stand a couple weeks ago.

I hit the halfway point in my pregnancy this week. Can't believe how fast time is going. Edward is getting excited to be a big brother...well maybe.

Easter in Little Rock

I'm a little late in getting these pictures up, but better late than never. We loved getting to see our Little Rock family along with many other friends who we miss dearly. Sadly, I never take enough pictures.
I've made it to the fourth month of pregnancy and can't believe how fast it's going. I have begun to feel little movements which I love. Also starting to feel so much better now and we are getting excited to find out what this baby will be. Yes, we decided to find out the sex. Mainly due to the fact that it makes the whole thing a lot more real for John and Edward. One of these times I want to hold out though. I may need John to sign a paper stating that he will wait until delivery.
Praying that you all had a wonderful Easter and have begun to enjoy warmer weather. Looks like we are gonna get 70's this week, yay!

Getting ready for Easter

Between coloring eggs and overhearing Edward sing "He Arose" at Target this week, we are almost ready for Easter. Now we just need to pack and head South for Little Rock on Friday. We can't WAIT to see all the family once again. Just praying that Edward will be healthy again before we leave...including John and myself. Have I mentioned that it is time for SPRING/SUMMER to be here?! I am tired of wearing a coat, hat, and gloves and especially tired of being couped up in the house. 50's are fine, but I am in need of some 70's and up.

Most probably already know this news...so this is for those who haven't heard.
I finally had my FIRST Midwife appointment today and heard the strong beating of our little baby's heart, (160's for those who are interested). I'm almost 13 weeks now and ready to be done with the first trimester , yahoo!
Edward was SOOO VERY happy to actually hear the heartbeat. He talks all the time about his baby "BOY," (let's hope that he will be happy if it ends up being a girl). I didn't expect him to be this excited and interested. It makes the second time around a lot of fun for us all.

A much needed vacation

It was a rare opportunity for most of my family to go on vacation together. We spent a lot of time at the beach and pool. No Disney this time around, maybe when Edward is a bit older. We enjoyed seeing one of the last few space shuttles take off from Cocoa Beach.
There is something about these long Iowa winters that almost drive one crazy. Thank goodness for sunshine, warmth, and the ocean.

As I completely relate with Eryn's last post, I'll keep this one short and simple, my usual. It's truly amazing when I find the time and desire to actually post something new...so at least I'm attempting.
We recently went bowling with some friends and had the greatest time. Edward is a bit young, but he did enjoy the whole rolling a big green ball down the long lane for a about ten minutes. The rest of the time he ran around with his friends and played arcade games. As for our final bowling scores...let's just try and forget about them if possible.

I'm trying to relish this last birthday in my twenties. Each birthday is such a great time to remember past years and then think on the years to come. Time used to sit still and now I'm begging it to slow down. Nevertheless, I've been so very blessed to live 29 years so far. I also can't believe that the Lord has given me such an AMAZING husband and son. And this is just a portion of what He's given/done for me. Today, I can't help but think on the incredibly powerful and beautiful song written by Stuart Townend.

to the Lord. John made it through this round of layoffs. We are so very thankful and we feel incredibly blessed. However, we can't help but think of those who are without a job today. Our prayers go out to all who are in this very difficult situation. May the Lord continue to sustain and encourage each of you.

Thank you all for such kind words and crucial prayers. The Lord continues to amaze us with such wonderful friends and family. It is such a blessing to be a part of His family.

A bit behind

Its been a CRAZY December for us. We enjoyed getting to spend time with all ten of my siblings around the Christmas break/wedding. It's difficult getting us kids together these days. Two of my sisters live in Chicago, one of my brother's is in Detroit, and then my younger brother is at college in Dubuque. I'm sure it will only get tougher as time goes on and as everyone gets married and such. Thus, we treasure every time we see each other.

John's parents were then able to come and stay with us for a few days after all the commotion. It was wonderful quieting things down a bit and just relaxing with them. Edward asked for Mimi and Pappy for days after they left. How we miss living close to them. I truly feel blessed for the years we were in the same town. Sadly, the only family members that we didn't get to see over the holidays were John's sisters and their families. We missed you all so much!

January has brought a scare to our family. John's company is laying people off today and tomorrow. We have been so fortunate to avoid this scenario until now. Nevertheless, we know that the Lord is ultimately in control and thankfully, the day is almost over and we haven't heard any bad news. I'll keep you posted. We do pray daily for some friends and family who have already lost their jobs. It's time for things to turn around for the better.
Coincidentally, our Chapel just began the Dave Ramsey 13 week course. Regardless of what happens, I am looking forward to learning and being inspired to make some changes. I love learning and miss the good old college days of buying all those expensive books, sitting hours in lecture, studying for days, and taking tests and such. This is similar...it will be easier as a whole, but a little harder to actually apply what I learn. So lets just make something clear, I'm the one who needs this class in our family. John is already great with finances post getting his masters in business. I guess he already had to take a lot of classes focusing on this area. Me on the other hand...I just can't say no to a good deal. Using cash will certainly change my choices and lifestyle a LOT. Is it possible to get rid of all credit cards??? I'll miss them for sure, if we decide to go that route. So this is another thing that I will keep you posted on.
In the midst of a serious time in our Country, we enjoy Edward and all his craziness. He is such a BUSY boy these days and becoming quite the talker. He loves to sing his ABC's and This Little Light of Mine along with many others. Edward loves playing in the snow with all his friends...he also loves eating it. We are looking forward to celebrating his second birthday in March. Time has FLOWN by these last couple years.

We celebrated my younger sister Sarah's wedding this weekend. She is the fifth of us ten kids. Can't believe that she is old enough to be married. Nevertheless, she found a wonderful guy from Minnesota. Danny Ruter is a Deputy Sheriff in Boone County. So hopefully the next time I get pulled over by a cop, it will be him.
We had the craziest weather all weekend long...thankfully, the Lord blessed us with clear roads and clear skies for the wedding.

Little Rock was the destination of our Thanksgiving this year. We had such a wonderful time with all the family together. I'm sure ours was similar to most of yours...eating, shopping, sleeping, laughing, eating some more, movies...etc. However, the kids and the dogs ended up being the main entertainment as usual.

We spent the day playing outside in 70 degree weather, carving pumpkins, dressing up as a cheetah, and eating lots of candy.
After giving Edward a long bath to remove all the stickiness and sugar, I am ready for bed. Too bad my little boy isn't. I guess we learned a big lesson today. No more then one piece of candy after 7 pm.

Today I went to my parents house to help make buckets of applesauce. There is nothing like homemade applesauce. The entire house smelled AMAZING and obviously like apples, cinnamon, and sugar, YUMMY! We used over four bushel's of apples this time around. Some of the best sauce is made by using a mixture of apples. Today we used Cortland, Honey Crisp, Early Gold, and Gala.
Hopefully all this sauce will last throughout the long winter months until we can make it again next fall.
As you can see, Edward was quite the big helper.

We were able to go to Chicago back in September...don't ask me why its taken so long to finally post about it.
John had to go for business so Edward and myself decided to tag along for some fun. We loved spending time with my sisters Katy and Abby and their husbands. Edward especially enjoyed shopping on Michigan Ave, which happened to be one of my favorites too. He also loved swimming at the hotel, playing at Lego land, eating at Rain Forest Cafe, and riding the subway. Other than one day of torrential rain pour, it was great weather. Too bad the rain came on the day John was off work.
Thanks to Katy, Caleb, Abby, Josh, and Jane for hanging out with us. We had a wonderful time!

Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing
went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of
obstructing sidewalk traffic.'

her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping

For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their

Last week, I went to a sparsely attended screening of HBO's new
movie 'Iron Jawed Angels.' It is a graphic depiction of the battle
these women waged so that I could pull the curtain at the polling
booth and have my say. I am ashamed to say I needed the reminder.

Just kidding on the double wedding. However, more happy news in the Rinehart family. My brother John is getting married!!! He is marrying the sweetest and most perfect girl for him. Her name is Laura Beech and she is from Detroit, MI. Congrats to you both!
Now half of us ten Rinehart kids will be married. Dropping like flies these days.

John and I had the privilege of having the entire Heller family together over Labor Day weekend. Our house happens to be right in the middle of Little Rock, AR and Baudette, MN, yay for us! The main attraction happened to be watching Greta and Edward play together. No fighting yet...maybe next time. They actually got along really well and they seemed to like each other a lot.

Summer Storms

These are the results from some major rain, hail, and wind Sunday night at my parents farm. Huge trees fell down or were uprooted, branches were everywhere and power lines happened to be in the trees downward path. Pictures really don't capture the full destruction. They are still working on electricity. Amazingly, no one was home at the time and the house, most buildings, and cars are all fine. Now its time for a HUGE bonfire.

Ragbrai came through Ames this week with 20,000 plus bike riders from all 50 states and many countries. For those of you who aren't familiar, it is a bike ride across the entire state of Iowa. They ride an average of 70 miles each day for a week. Everyone camps out at the end of each day at a designated town. Ames happened to be a city to stop in this year. Lance Armstrong introduced the band STYX in Ames Tuesday night to begin the festivities. The city had multiple events going on throughout the day and late into the night. We enjoyed walking around the town, people watching, eating, and meeting some interesting bike riders. My favorite part of the day was getting to see some of my childhood friends from Milwaukee. This is their first experience with Ragbrai. They highly recommended it and so maybe next year John and I will try it too.

A boy in the making

Let's see, ingredients for a little boy - Dirt, bugs, water, more dirt, worms, sand, smiles, laughter, messes and on and on.
Being the mom-to-be of a little boy, I remember reading the first chapter of Dr. James Dobson's book Bringing Up Boys. The first chapter caught my attention with sentences such as, "Boys are usually (but not always) tougher to raise than their sisters are... boys are designed to be more assertive, audacious, and excitable than girls are... little aggressive machines...etc." Of course, I can't compare him to a little girl yet but, I think he may be right.
Regardless, I'm enjoying my little "aggressive machine" so much these days. Despite the occasional temper tantrums, messes, fearlessness, new found weapon of pinching others to get what he wants...etc. Thank goodness for other mothers with boys, you know what I'm talking about.
I'm just starting a book called What the Bible Says About...Child Training by J. Richard Fugate (Thank you dear Parent-in-laws). I'm praying that it will give me some good insight and advice with my duty as a mother.

Well I've almost made it to the 100th post...maybe by the end of the year. 70th is pretty huge for me.
Anyways, in celebration I've decided to show you a few pictures from today. After a hour or so of manual pumping, I finally got Edward's kiddie pool all ready for a beautiful, hot, sunny day. Of course, by the time I actually finished the whole process, it was starting to cloud over and the wind had picked up considerably. Oh well, we still had a blast.
I'm also attaching a couple pics of my beautiful bouquet of pionese flowers that my sweet husband picked for me. They are some of my favorite flowers. My whole house smells so good right now because of their amazing scent. Thanks John!

I was at the finish line and saw many collapse or throw up, INSANE. Today has been an eventful one for us and it's not even over yet. Edward began the day helping me clean the toilette, thankfully he used the proper brush and he didn't even fall in. For lunch, we started with a pork sandwich and ended with a mouth full of dirt, yum! Lastly, we enjoyed our first pool party with friends. Our favorite neighbors, Bryce, Brianna, and Megan taught Edward the important aspects of summer fun. Thank goodness for beautiful 80 degree temps and sunshine!

We've also enjoyed playing with Grandma and Grandpa's little chocolate lab puppy.

Getting back to the swing of things

Last week was a whirlwind of fun and chaos. I decided to travel with my mom and brother Daniel to Detroit to drop off Daniel for the summer and see my brother John. We drove through Chicago Tuesday night and stayed with Katy and Caleb. After 20 + years, I finally got to go to my second Chicago Cubs game. It was a cold, windy, rainy night and even worse, they lost. Nevertheless, it was great getting to watch in person and so much fun hanging out with Abby, Josh, Katy, Caleb, and Daniel. Thanks to my mom for watching Edward.
We then left for Detroit Wednesday morning. We were able to spend a good amount of time with John, his girlfriend and her family. John is working as an assistant to the superintendent at Oakland Hills Country Club. We enjoyed when John took us on a rare tour of the entire course. It's "rare" not only because it's a private course, but they are hosting the 2008 PGA Tournament in August. We may have to go for the practice rounds or tournament.
It was also a week of firsts for Edward. He loved going to the Rain Forest Cafe, riding a carousel with U. Dan, driving a golf cart, walking on a golf course, learning to say "John," and blowing kisses. Despite my worries. Edward did wonderfully the entire time, thank the Lord.
I'm now trying to get back to our normal routine at home. However, I caught a cold while away and haven't felt like doing too much. Maybe things will be back to normal next week.

Does anyone have good...no GREAT recommendations on children's music? Due to some long car rides recently, we are in need of something new and interesting. Also, preferably something not only for the little one but for the parents, (is that even possible?!). John and I may lose it if we hear one more, "Who did, who did, who did, who did, who did swallow Jo, Jo, Jonah...etc." My dear mother just bought us a Raffi CD and a generic set of classics for kids. We are really excited to listen to something new for a change. I'd also like to check out Jack Johnson's cd for kids.

Fun Times

It has been a wonderful and busy last few weekends. Keith, Sarah, and Greta were able to stop by a couple weekends ago while traveling through Iowa. We loved watching the two cousins playing together. Of course, it only made us wish that we lived closer. We then packed up the car and headed South to see Nanny, Pappy, Michelle, Scott, and many friends in Little Rock. The time always flies by and leaves us wishing for more time with loved ones. The weather was amazing! It really made us miss the warmer climates of the South. Especially since it's been in the 30's in Iowa lately. Yes, still waiting for Spring to begin.

Midwest Earthquake?!

Headline news:
WEST SALEM, Ill — "A 5.2-magnitude earthquake centered in southern Illinois rattled homes and skyscrapers across the Midwest early Friday, causing little damage but surprising residents unaccustomed to such a powerful temblor."
Supposedly, many felt it here in Iowa too. Thankfully, I was sleeping at 4:30 AM.

On to less exciting news. It has been a very busy April so far. The month started with John's 30th birthday. The following weekend we went to a Family Life Marriage Conference in Des Moines. Excellent!!! If you have never gone, GO. Our Chapel sends six couples every year. It's such a great investment. This also happened to be our first weekend adventure without Edward. He stayed with his Grandma and Grandpa Rinehart...didn't even miss us.

This last week:
We've had a bunch of little friends over to play.
Attended a Laura Ingles Wilder play at the University of Iowa State.
Planned to go to Little Rock for the weekend, canceled the trip until next week.
Got a great surprise call yesterday saying that Sarah, Keith, and cousin Greta are coming for the weekend, YEAH!!!
Took Edward to the Dr. today because he's got a bad cold, cough, fever and he's been exposed to Strep, Scarlet Fever, Fifths disease...etc. Thankfully, the Dr. said that it's not bacterial at this point. We are praying that he doesn't get little Greta sick.

Sadly, this is NOT an April Fools joke. Well actually, all the snow Edward is sitting on in this picture has melted. However, we did get a very small dusting this AM.
We continue to live in frigid temps here in Iowa. I was hoping that by April 1st we would have some 60 degree temps. And no, not yet. Supposedly by the end of the week we will see highs in the 50's. Edward and I are getting so tired of being stuck at home. The few days that we've gotten to spend outside have been such a treat...even if we have a heavy coat, hat, gloves, leggings, and blankets on.
Here are some pictures of Edward on Easter Sunday. It was slightly snowy that day, but he couldn't wait to wear the outfit that Nanny and Pappy Heller bought him for Easter. Apparently, it's been in the high 70's in Little Rock for quite some time. We try not to think about it.
Regardless, today the sun is shining and if you are shielded from the wind it feels pretty warm. ;)

This topic tends to be very controversial. However, now that Edward is one, I am faced with the decision. I would appreciate any advice or information on this shot. How do you feel about the MMR vaccination? Would you vaccinate your child with this shot knowing the things that you've heard in the last year or so? Have you or your child been affected negatively by getting this shot? Also, are there other vaccinations that you have concerns about? Is it necessary to have the varicella vaccination? What do you think?

Party Time

A week long celebration has begun around our home because Edward turns ONE on Saturday. Last night we started with the infamous restaurant, Hickory Park. Edward LOVED when all the waitresses circled around him to sing. However, his favorite part was getting the "Merry-go-round" ice cream sundae. YUM!
We are planning to have the big party this Saturday night. Does anyone have ideas or suggestions when planning a one year old party? I actually want to keep things pretty simple. My main goal is to have fun with Edward, family, and friends. We'll post pics when available.
We had another party this week with my mom, a few of my sisters, and our dear friend Iola. She has truly adopted all of us as part of her family. Iola has diligently made birthday cakes for each of us (TEN) Rinehart children for years. We love her so much and thank the Lord for placing her in our lives.

Wedding in Waterloo

John, Edward, and I went to Kim (Rutzmoser) Barker's wedding this last weekend. It was beautiful and a lot of fun seeing a few familiar faces from my days at Emmaus. It was also great seeing Caleb and my sister Katy who was one of her bridesmaids.

I've been researching car seats lately, big surprise I'm sure. Anyways, Edward just turned eleven months and he's still in his first car seat. He has grown to despise it due to our last long trip to Chicago and back. I have been waiting for him to meet the forward facing requirements of being 1 y/o and 20 lbs. However, I don't think he nor myself can wait much longer.
I have already purchased a Britax Regent forward facing seat, (I got a killer deal on it or I'd probably not have paid the money). Anyways, he won't be able to use it until he's 22 lbs. and regardless, I need another seat for our second vehicle. So I'm asking for help on this one. I remember reading about this same topic awhile ago. I just don't remember who posted about it. At the time I didn't pay much attention, now I wish that I had.
My main concern is safety. Price, comfort, and ease of cleaning the material and strapping him in are also very important. What do you all think?

Chicago

We have been enjoying a week in Chi-town with Katy, Caleb, Abby, and Josh. We drove into town Saturday afternoon and have been all over the city in the last few days. Some of the highlights have been some fabulous restaurants, The Museum of Science & Industry, The Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Planetarium, IKEA...etc. Its been a wonderful learning experience for Edward, my three younger sisters and myself. We have two more days to see Michigan Ave, Art Museum, John Hancock or Sears tower and whatever else will fit into our schedule. Edward has been quite the little trooper. He misses his Daddy terribly though. We look forward to his return on Friday night.
I'll end this little note with a prayer request for all our family members who are overseas. John of course is now in Poland. My brother is heading back to Michigan from Puerto Rico, and my parents are in Costa Rica for the next ten days.
Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY COUSIN GRETA!!!! We love and miss you so much and hope you had a wonderful #1 birthday.

Since John is in Europe all week, three of my sisters, Edward, and I drove into Chicago yesterday to visit our sisters Katy and Abby and their husbands for the week. We are having a GREAT time so far spending time with everyone and seeing the sights and sounds of Chicago. However, the most exciting event today was this...

Locks of Love

Call it a wild hair or just a major need for change since turning the big 2-8 yesterday. Nevertheless, today I actually took the big plunge and chopped my hair off. I'm really excited to donate my 10 + inches to Locks of Love. It may sound a little cheesy, but I felt a lot better about cutting all that hair knowing that it may benefit someone else eventually. I encourage one and all to do it too. Maybe I'll even talk some of my seven other sisters, (who all happen to have REALLY long hair right now) into doing the same.
Here are a few pictures of before and after. I haven't tried styling it myself yet. Hopefully I'll like it once its left up to me.
