AT WHAT COST?

I've been researching car seats lately, big surprise I'm sure. Anyways, Edward just turned eleven months and he's still in his first car seat. He has grown to despise it due to our last long trip to Chicago and back. I have been waiting for him to meet the forward facing requirements of being 1 y/o and 20 lbs. However, I don't think he nor myself can wait much longer.
I have already purchased a Britax Regent forward facing seat, (I got a killer deal on it or I'd probably not have paid the money). Anyways, he won't be able to use it until he's 22 lbs. and regardless, I need another seat for our second vehicle. So I'm asking for help on this one. I remember reading about this same topic awhile ago. I just don't remember who posted about it. At the time I didn't pay much attention, now I wish that I had.
My main concern is safety. Price, comfort, and ease of cleaning the material and strapping him in are also very important. What do you all think?

About a year ago I posted about this. We ended up going to babies-r-us and bought a really nice eddie bauer (i think)one. It fit our car horribly and would not stay secure. We exchanged it for an evenflo (it was the cheapest they had) and it works great. It's easy to use and not hideous and has good safety reports. Not sure that helps much but there ya go.

We bought this car seat for Austin at around 8 months, he was just too long for his baby seat anymore. This seat you can face rear facing or forward. So, we just faced it rear until a year.

He has been using it ever since, and we like it a lot.

We have the same triumph one ruth, and we love it! It was camryn's but it still has around 18 months left on it. I actually have on my list today to bring it in and clean it all up. Miles is on the edge of outgrowing his seat too.

We have the same one too...I had to switch Ethan to it at around 8 month I think, because he's always been so tall. We have loved it. Very easy to use, and it has good reviews.

Thanks girls. I'm debating between Britax, Triumph, or FP Safe Voyage. If you have any other advice, please let me know ASAP. I am ready to go and buy one this weekend.

Kari,
You are not going to like this info, but I have to pass it on! We bought Bella a new car seat too when she was 12 months, and I went to the fire station to have them put it in. I was thinking of just telling them that she was 1 (which she was) and hoping they didn't ask me how much she weighed (I think it was 17 lbs at that point). Well, the fireman told me that he had a daughter a few months older than Bella so he was giving this advice as a father and fireman, do not turn the car seat around until you absolutely have to. It is much, much safer to be rear facing. It is the baby's neck that has risk of being injured front facing (I know you are a nurse!) which is a serious injury!
So I went in hoping to turn it around before she even weighed 20 pounds, and now I am totally convinced of keeping it rear facing (ours is one that goes from birth- 35 pounds so it can go rear or forward facing). My MIL had already turned her car seat for Bella around, and I made her turn it back!
Of course, I hope overall you have no accidents!
What car seat did you decide on?

Thanks for the advice Shayna. I've been reading a LOT about car seats and when to turn them around lately...as you can tell. Anyways, as you mentioned, I've been thinking about keeping him rear facing for awhile longer too. Hearing your advice makes me feel better about doing so.
We finally decided on the Britax Boulevard seat. It was on the high end of our budget though. Regardless, I looked everywhere and found a new one for $100 + less then regular price. We couldn't say no to such a fantastic seat and deal. So many people have raved and about them and many wish they would have purchased one to begin with. So that was the BIG decision and I'm happy to be done with it all.

This may sound weird, but for us, a tall carseat is good. After your child's head is taller than the back of the carseat, you move up to a booster. A outgrew her second carseat before I was ready to put her into a booster. Oh well! You guys may not have to worry about the tall issue!
