A bit behind

Its been a CRAZY December for us. We enjoyed getting to spend time with all ten of my siblings around the Christmas break/wedding. It's difficult getting us kids together these days. Two of my sisters live in Chicago, one of my brother's is in Detroit, and then my younger brother is at college in Dubuque. I'm sure it will only get tougher as time goes on and as everyone gets married and such. Thus, we treasure every time we see each other.

John's parents were then able to come and stay with us for a few days after all the commotion. It was wonderful quieting things down a bit and just relaxing with them. Edward asked for Mimi and Pappy for days after they left. How we miss living close to them. I truly feel blessed for the years we were in the same town. Sadly, the only family members that we didn't get to see over the holidays were John's sisters and their families. We missed you all so much!

January has brought a scare to our family. John's company is laying people off today and tomorrow. We have been so fortunate to avoid this scenario until now. Nevertheless, we know that the Lord is ultimately in control and thankfully, the day is almost over and we haven't heard any bad news. I'll keep you posted. We do pray daily for some friends and family who have already lost their jobs. It's time for things to turn around for the better.
Coincidentally, our Chapel just began the Dave Ramsey 13 week course. Regardless of what happens, I am looking forward to learning and being inspired to make some changes. I love learning and miss the good old college days of buying all those expensive books, sitting hours in lecture, studying for days, and taking tests and such. This is similar...it will be easier as a whole, but a little harder to actually apply what I learn. So lets just make something clear, I'm the one who needs this class in our family. John is already great with finances post getting his masters in business. I guess he already had to take a lot of classes focusing on this area. Me on the other hand...I just can't say no to a good deal. Using cash will certainly change my choices and lifestyle a LOT. Is it possible to get rid of all credit cards??? I'll miss them for sure, if we decide to go that route. So this is another thing that I will keep you posted on.
In the midst of a serious time in our Country, we enjoy Edward and all his craziness. He is such a BUSY boy these days and becoming quite the talker. He loves to sing his ABC's and This Little Light of Mine along with many others. Edward loves playing in the snow with all his friends...he also loves eating it. We are looking forward to celebrating his second birthday in March. Time has FLOWN by these last couple years.
So here are just a couple silly pictures of our little HAM.

As I have now written a novel, I want to leave you all with a verse that has been a blessing to me lately.

"Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;...they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:30-31

Praying for you guys, hopefully John won't call home with any bad news.
That is great your chapel is doing Dave Ramsey...I read the book a while ago, and thought it was so helpful. Looking forward to hearing about what you learn!

Good to hear an update on your fam - keep us posted on Johnny's job. Life brings all sorts of struggles, that is for sure. Rest in the knowledge that the Lord knows the outcome - and will provide.

Can't wait to hear more about Dave Ramsey!

Praying for you guys. It's such an encouragement to me to see how others are able to see the Lord in all situations, even the bad ones. Praying for you guys and whatever may happen with Johns job.

E is such a cutie-pie. Sounds like he's quite the talker for such a little man!

Hi Kari! Just wanted to let you know that I am praying for you guys and that the Lord would preserve John's job. Just some encouragement though incase the Lord has other plans or even to pass on to others who are walking in the unemployment shoes. Sam was layed-off from his job at the end of June of last year and as of yet has not been able to find another job. He has applied for hundreds, interviewed for a few, but the Lord hasn't opened any doors yet. My point is that God has been so tremendously FAITHFUL to us. Not only has he been providing for our practical and physical needs, but He has touched our hearts and met our spiritual needs. We have learned so much and love Him so much more because of it. Yes, I'll agree with you when you said it's time for things to change. I've been thinking that for quite some time! God for some reason (and knowing how He works, it's an awesome reason) has kept asking us to wait and in waiting to be still and continue to trust when the path looks dark and sounds silent. Thanks so much for the encouring verse at the end of your post! His compassion fails not and GREAT IS HIS FAITHFULNESS!
